Forma’s end-to-end, cloud-based, AI-native platform driving forward a paradigm shift in AECO.

The architecture, engineering, construction, and operations (AECO) industry stands at the brink of a sweeping transformation. For decades, AECO teams have excelled at delivering remarkable projects—skyscrapers, bridges, hospitals, and homes. But now, challenges are mounting and it’s clear the status quo of fragmented workflows, isolated data, and reactive decisions just doesn’t cut it anymore. A new approach is needed.

Autodesk is answering the industry’s call for transformation with Autodesk Forma, the first end-to-end, cloud-based, AI-native platform built for architects, engineers, contractors, and owners. Forma is more than a collection of tools; it’s the industry’s first truly unified environment for planning, designing, building, and operating.

With Forma, it’s not about throwing away proven methodologies that have served the industry for decades, but about enhancing them with cutting-edge technology that helps you work differently and unlock capacity. We’re excited to share more on how Forma’s latest developments are driving forward a paradigm shift and delivering better ways of working.

The future of AECO is already here – with Autodesk Forma.

Uniting design and make processes with an end-to-end industry cloud

Today, we announced we’re moving closer to our full industry cloud vision by bringing Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) into Forma. By bringing ACC’s leading construction management tools into Forma, we’re delivering a full lifecycle platform for our customers that creates a deeper connection from design to construction to operations. This will include Autodesk Estimate, a new cloud-based estimating solution connecting 2D and 3D takeoffs to costs, materials, and labor calculations to help general contractors and subcontractors produce more accurate estimates and win more proposals.

To complement these changes, the current offering for early-stage planning, previously known as Autodesk Forma, will be rebranded to Forma Site Design. This change reflects the multitude of ways in which AECO users can get started with the Forma industry cloud:

  • Begin in the Forma industry cloud from day one by carrying out your site planning in Forma Site Design.
  • Access Forma industry cloud capabilities through the next major release of Revit, the first Forma Connected Client.
  • Bring your data to Forma Data Management (previously Autodesk Docs) to benefit from the power of Forma.
  • Continue using the benefits of Autodesk Construction Cloud in your current workflows, with no migration or configuration changes needed.

Expanding the Forma industry cloud to connect more stakeholders in every phase will bring data and intelligence to the center of every project. Leading Dutch design-build firm, Dura Vermeer, is already using both Forma Site Design and ACC to streamline workflows across planning and construction, demonstrating the value of connected design and make and what’s possible when builders embrace innovation across the full project lifecycle.

“Our sector is evolving rapidly and digital tools are helping us work smarter and faster,” said Gert-Jan Ditsel, Business Partner Digital Construction at Dura Vermeer. “Using Autodesk Forma and Autodesk Construction Cloud has improved how our teams collaborate—from initial design to final construction. For example, we’ve significantly reduced coordination time and improved project delivery timelines. These technologies are helping us deliver better outcomes for our clients and unlock new opportunities for innovation within our business.”

Building on Forma’s end-to-end capabilities, we’re also excited to introduce Forma Building Design, the first of many new Forma solutions that will support a broader range of industries and project phases. Launching in beta in the coming months, Forma Building Design is an easy-to-use detailed building design solution with automated design tools and integrated analyses. This empowers project leaders, CAD, and BIM architects to create detailed building models with speed and precision. Designed for accessibility and intuitiveness, Forma Building Design enables users of all skill levels to design with intent and deliver with impact.

Forma Building Design empowers every participant, from project leaders to CAD and BIM architects, by providing seamless transitions from initial concepts to detailed BIM-level designs and fostering inclusive participation in the design process.

Connecting desktop and cloud workflows

As Forma evolves, we’re also continuing to invest in the core tools our customers trust and use every day. That’s why Autodesk is introducing Forma Connected Clients, a label recognizing when a desktop product is deeply integrated into the Forma industry cloud, bridging the gap between the desktop applications our customers already use and their growing cloud-native workflows.

Revit will be the first official Forma Connected Client. As a Forma Connected Client, Revit users will be able to tap into Forma’s contextual data marketplace, environmental analyses, and collaboration features without leaving their desktop environment and without the need for exports, imports or rework. Over time, Autodesk will evolve additional desktop solutions into Forma Connected Clients, unlocking broader capabilities and enabling more powerful cross-product workflows for more customers.

At the center of this transformation is open, connected data

Open, connected data is integral to unlocking AI’s potential and enabling even better workflows for our customers. Powered by Autodesk AI, Autodesk Assistant is now coming to Revit, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D, enabling teams to use natural language prompts to automate tasks and surface insights instantly. For example, in AutoCAD, users can analyze their projects against drawing standards and have violations flagged immediately— breaking down hours of tedious review into minutes of intelligent analysis. This in addition to Autodesk Assistant advancements in our construction solutions– project data advancements give teams a quick and intuitive way to tap into everything from specifications and submittals to RFIs, issues, change orders, and schedules.

We’re also bringing automation into the operations phase with Tandem Insights, a new capability within Autodesk Tandem that surfaces information that’s most critical, transforming facility operations from reactive to proactive.

These capabilities aren’t just incremental improvements—they’re bold leaps that help unlock our customers’ capacity to do more.

Moving from silos to hyper-collaboration with Forma Data Management

Data is fueling new levels of collaboration. By combining data with immersive technology and AI, we’re moving toward a new norm of hyper-collaboration, in which teams collaborate across phases, industries, from desktop to cloud (and vice versa), both synchronously and asynchronously. Digital whiteboard tools like Forma Board let teams ideate, sketch, and discuss live concepts in real time, while immersive environments like Autodesk Workshop XR enable life-size design reviews, helping teams catch issues early and prevent costly rework. At the heart of this hyper-collaboration is a powerful common data environment.

Autodesk Docs is now officially the common data environment for all of Forma, and we will call it Forma Data Management, the centralized hub for all AECO project information. This means every Autodesk customer, whether working on desktop or cloud, can benefit from unified data access and collaboration—no migration needed. Everyone is working from the same source of truth, radically improving transparency and real-time decision-making across disciplines and geographies.

Additionally, Forma Data Management Essentials will be entitled to all standalone AutoCAD, Revit, and Civil 3D users, to support nimble collaboration and information sharing across project stakeholders.
